Established in 1995, Purtex is a 100% Czech company with no foreign capital. Although many small manufacturers try to produce mattresses today, they lack Purtex’s state-of-the-art technology and are thus unable to match the high Purtex quality. The situation with cheap imported mattresses is similar. And while some manufacturers and sellers even claim they offer “MEDICAL” mattresses, it’s important to know that the term “MEDICAL” mattress is nothing more than a misleading marketing claim. The only name allowed by the Ministry of Health is MEDICAL DEVICE, and it can only be used by those who have conducted a CLINICAL TRIAL. If someone uses the names above, ask for qualifying documents.
You should be aware that you spend one-third of your life in a bed, so don’t let poor sleep damage your health. It is still a popular belief that the cheapest food or the cheapest sleep cannot harm us. You should realize that various orthopaedic health problems are caused by an inappropriate choice of mattress, and it is often too late to correct them. Mattresses are not a cure but rather prevention. You should also know that a 100% “NATURAL” mattress cannot be manufactured, as it would have to be made of 100% cotton or wool. Neither can a mattress core be made of 100% natural materials because mattress cover and core materials are chemically treated.
We are preparing a new offer for LINET s.r.o. (the largest European manufacturer of equipment for hospitals and social services, through whom our mattresses are exported all over the world) and we have been advised that the offer may not contain latex because medical research shows that 100% natural latex contains more than 150 proteins, of which 35 may act as allergens. There are multiple professional articles on the Internet calling attention to this issue. A big problem with latex is non-breathability due to its closed pores. Contrary to some sellers’ claims, channels do not affect breathability because channelling cannot ensure air flow unless the core is adequately perforated. Accordingly, Purtex has eliminated latex (in both mattresses and pillows) from its range of products.
The polyurethane foams we use are made solely by Eurofoam, a German group, and Carpenter, a US manufacturer, at their plants in Germany and Belgium. The materials have Oeko-Tex® tests and may be used for infants, as they do not contain phthalates. Our suppliers are not the cheapest ones but quality is a guarantee of healthy sleep. To reduce complaints to a minimum, we have eliminated cheap, low-quality foam that caused sinking. When buying a mattress, it’s advisable to know the supplier of the foam. Purtex manufactures its own Recon foam, and we are one of a few producers that can make this foam from VISCO. Although the foam is much more elastic than standard kinds of foam, demand among Czech manufacturers is low because they use cheaper foam. We export 90% of our annual production and the remaining 10% is used by Purtex for our CLINICALLY EVALUATED mattresses.
When choosing a mattress, you should take into account its intended use. Regular use requires choosing top-quality types with a long lifespan and high comfort of sleep. For occasional use (summer house, cottage, etc.), you can choose a mid-range mattress, with consideration for the frequency of use. Cheaper mattresses can be used for one- or two-night visits and similar occasions. Be aware that a cheap mattress has a significantly shorter lifespan and do not trust a promised guarantee of up to 20+ years.
A very important factor for selection is mattress climate, aeration, breathability and above treatment against mites, which are the greatest enemy in mattresses. Mites are carriers of allergens, but what is most harmful are their faeces, especially the quantity the millions of mites in your mattress produce. To eliminate the need to vacuum your mattress regularly, Purtex is the only company in the Czech Republic to offer permanent eradication of mites in mattress covers and cores using GREENFIRST® (patented and licensed by a French and German company). For detailed information on all materials used by Purtex, visit www.purtex.cz. The Czech market is flooded with mattresses that are very similar and differ only in price; that’s why on 1 October 2014, Purtex introduced a new, clinically evaluated line of mattresses named Natur&Dream and EXCLUSIVE, which are comparable to what’s offered on the market but with much higher quality and unique core shapes and cuts.
